Four members of a family, including three infants, tragically passed away in Chhapra city, Bihar, after inhaling toxic fumes from a charcoal brazier. The incident occurred as the family lit the brazier to keep warm in the cold, leading to a build-up of carbon monoxide gas that caused them to lose consciousness.
The family, unaware of the danger, remained unconscious overnight. When other family members opened the room in the morning, they discovered the devastating scene, with four individuals already deceased. Among the deceased were a 70-year-old woman and three young children, sparking shock and grief in the community.
Neighbors responded to the emergency, alerting the authorities and medical services promptly. Several family members, including those who had arrived from Varanasi for medical treatment, were affected by the fumes and rushed to Chhapra Sadar Hospital.
The injured individuals are under close medical supervision, with three reported to be in critical condition. The police conducted initial investigations at the scene and have initiated legal procedures, including post-mortem examinations. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the lethal risks associated with using charcoal braziers indoors during the winter months.
