A farmer, Trilochan Nayak, from Junagadi village in Kendrapara district, reportedly faced harassment during paddy procurement, leading to his tragic death. Nayak struggled for over a month to sell his paddy at the Mandi, with allegations of illegal deductions during the registration process. The situation escalated when a mill deducted more paddy and demanded extra money, resulting in a total expenditure of Rs 18,000 for Nayak.
The farmer spent three days guarding his paddy at the Rice Mill without proper food or rest, only to return home and suffer a fatal heart attack. This incident has intensified the political clash in Odisha, with the opposition BJD criticizing the state government for the chaos in Mandis. The BJD has called for the resignation of State Supply Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, blaming him for the farmer’s death due to misinformation on paddy procurement.
In response, Supply Minister Patra announced an investigation into the matter, promising strict action against anyone found responsible for the tragic events in Rajnagar village.
