A 25-year-old fashion video creator was arrested by the Surat City Crime Branch for sharing a fabricated social media post related to the students’ protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The post, which falsely claimed an incident at Jantar Mantar, aimed to incite unrest and disrupt public peace.
The misleading post, shared widely on July 24, featured a caption honoring a girl at Jantar Mantar, accompanied by a photo. However, authorities clarified that no such event had taken place and labeled the content as intentionally created to instigate unnecessary tension during the ongoing protest.
Following the circulation of the post, the Cyber Crime Police Station initiated an inquiry and subsequently apprehended the individual behind the Facebook account. Identified as Aditya Baraiya, the accused is a fashion video creator residing in Surat, originally from Bela village in Bhavnagar district.
The arrest was made as part of an enhanced monitoring effort on social media platforms to detect and prevent the dissemination of content that could disrupt public order. The Surat City Police advised the public to verify the authenticity of social media content before sharing it and encouraged reporting of fake posts to maintain social harmony.
