The Fencing Association of India (FAI) recently conducted a pioneering AI Video Referral System & Video Analysis Workshop in New Delhi. This workshop, considered a global first, aimed to enhance technology-driven officiating and performance analysis in fencing. It was part of FAI’s preparations for hosting the Asian Senior Fencing Championship 2026 and focused on upgrading the knowledge and skills of referees, coaches, and sports officials.
The workshop emphasized the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in video referral systems and advanced video analysis to improve decision-making and enhance athlete performance assessment. Discussions revolved around AI-powered tools for referees, real-time video analysis, and data-driven performance evaluation methods. The goal was to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency in officiating, aligning with FAI’s vision of setting high competition standards.
Participants had hands-on experience with cutting-edge video review and tracking systems, essential for international sporting events. FAI’s investment in educating technical personnel aims to keep Indian fencing at the forefront of innovation. This initiative signifies a significant leap towards modernizing fencing officiating and competition management, showcasing India’s readiness to host major international fencing events and promoting a technologically advanced sporting environment.
