Filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi, thrilled by her Manipuri film ‘Boong’ winning a BAFTA, discussed the casting process. The movie centers on Boong, a young boy in Manipur searching for his missing father to restore family happiness. Against the backdrop of social tensions, the film premiered at prestigious festivals and won the BAFTA Award for Best Children’s and Family Film in 2026.

Lakshmipriya Devi revealed that casting for the film relied on word of mouth due to the lack of a structured system in Manipuri cinema. She emphasized the importance of effective communication with the child actor, Gugun Kipgen, who plays the lead role. The film, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Excel Entertainment, is currently showing in theaters.
