The Election Department in Rajasthan has finalized the electoral rolls after the claims and objections period for the Special Summary Revision. Official data reveals that 1,39,674 names were requested to be removed from the voter list, with 10,92,959 new voters added. Most applications came from the public, with 1,17,691 names sought for deletion and 10,92,959 names for addition.
Political parties’ Booth Level Agents also participated in the process. The BJP’s 2,316 BLAs sought the deletion of 21,971 names and the addition of 316 names. Meanwhile, Congress’s 11 BLAs aimed to add 185 names and delete 12 names. The deadline for claims and objections, initially January 15, was extended to January 19 due to a high number of applications during the extended period.
The deadline extension sparked controversy, particularly with the Congress opposing it strongly. Senior Congress leaders criticized the move, alleging irregularities. They accused the Election Commission of favoring the BJP by accepting applications to remove voters supporting the Congress, leading to protests and claims of a premeditated scheme. The BJP’s last-minute submission of numerous forms without proper BLA signatures and identification numbers further fueled the dispute.
Congress leaders, including Govind Singh Dotasra and Tikaram Jully, held a press conference in New Delhi, linking the alleged irregularities to a broader conspiracy following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Rajasthan.
