Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district have filed an FIR against the wife and son of MLA Peerzada Mohammad Syed for allegedly locking a government-run hospital. The case was registered at Achabal police station in South Kashmir against the MLA’s family members for locking a health facility in Damhal Khosipora. The building, owned by the MLA’s family, was designated for a primary health center in 2008.
The family claims that the MLA had requested the relocation of the health center earlier this year due to the building’s deteriorating condition. In a social media video, the MLA’s wife accused officials of misconduct when they arrived with police to break the building’s lock. Primary health centers in Jammu and Kashmir are often housed in private accommodations, with owners receiving rent. Some owners seek eviction due to low rent or building damage.
Peerzada Mohammad Syed, a Congress leader and MLA in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, represents the Anantnag constituency. He has previously held positions in the Congress party and served as the president of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee.
