An FIR was lodged against Trinamool Congress members Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen, and Baiswanor Chattopadhyay at Hare Street Police Station in Kolkata for causing traffic disruptions. The leaders had blocked a road in central Kolkata to set up a stage for the party’s annual July 21 Martyrs’ Day event, leading to traffic chaos during peak hours. The police stated that the road blockade lasted from 2:50 pm to 4 pm on June 28, prompting the filing of the FIR.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized the Trinamool Congress’s actions during the incident in the state Assembly. He highlighted the party’s request for permission to hold a procession on Rani Rashmoni Road, which was denied due to concerns about a large crowd. Adhikari sarcastically remarked on the situation, questioning the need for road blockages for inspection purposes and suggesting alternative venues like the Brigade.
A dispute has emerged over the organization of the Trinamool’s July 21 Martyrs’ Day event in Kolkata. While the Mamata Banerjee faction sought police approval for the event in the Esplanade area, the rebel faction, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, also approached the police for permission to host the same program. The rebel group claims to represent the ‘real Trinamool Congress’ and aims to observe the Martyrs’ Day event alongside the main party.
