Raipur, Aug 18 (IANS) A case has been registered following a complaint by Chhattisgarh BJP spokesperson Ujjwal Deepak against Congress functionary Supriya Shrinate and social media influencer Neha Singh Rathore.
The complaint alleges that the two circulated photos and videos from a BJP training programme, falsely presenting them as footage from Independence Day celebrations. The FIR was registered on 17 August evening.
Speaking to IANS, complainant Ujjwal Deepak said an FIR was being registered against Congress National Spokesperson and National Media In-Charge Supriya Shrinate.
Ujjwal Deepak claimed, “Congress Social Media President and Akhil Bharatiya Congress Committee Chairperson, Supriya Shrinate, along with Neha Singh Rathore and some other social media users, allegedly tried to spread false information on August 15. They shared a video from March 2026 showing former minister Ajay Chandrakar waving the Bharatiya Janata Party flag. The post was presented in a way that suggested the video was recorded on August 15.”
According to the complaint submitted to the Chhattisgarh Police, Shrinate and Rathore shared material from the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Training Maha Abhiyan’ held on March 22, 2026, in Kurud, Dhamtari district.
The posts claimed the visuals were from August 15, 2026, and asserted that BJP representatives had hoisted the party flag in place of the National Flag.
The old video was amplified on Independence Day, an act the complainant claims is likely to create public confusion, political tension and unrest.
The controversy centres on a video of former minister and Kurud BJP MLA, Ajay Chandrakar, that went viral on August 15. In the clip, Chandrakar is seen hoisting a BJP flag. Social media users shared it with the claim that he had raised the party flag instead of the Tricolour on Independence Day, prompting accusations of disrespect to the National Flag.
Subsequent checks established that the footage was not from August 15 but from the earlier BJP training event.
The complaint states that Congress-linked handles made the outdated video viral precisely on Independence Day.
Police officials said they have registered a case under Section 336 (4), 353 (2) and 196 of BNS and are investigating the matter.
The BJP has demanded the immediate removal of the allegedly misleading content through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and the concerned social media platforms, along with action against the accounts involved.
Officials said the complaint objects to the circulation of material that could generate confusion and controversy at the social level.
A BJP delegation that met authorities included state spokesperson Ujjwal Deepak, Dr. Kiran Baghel, Rajiv Chakraborty, state media co-ordinator Rahul Rai, Mahila Morcha district president Kritika Jain and others. The investigation is ongoing.
