In a significant development for Indian sports and global wellness, the inaugural World Yogasana Championship (WYC) 2026, dedicated to Yogasana as a competitive sport, was officially inaugurated in New Delhi. The event, scheduled for June 4–8, 2026, at Eka Arena in Ahmedabad, will welcome top Yogasana athletes and delegations from over 60 countries, including Uganda, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya, Japan, Oman, Mauritius, and the Netherlands.
The unveiling ceremony showcased the championship’s logo, trophy, official jersey, and Veer the lion mascot, symbolizing the integration of Yogasana into the global sports arena while honoring India’s cultural heritage. Supported by various entities like the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, and sports authorities, the championship aims to elevate Yogasana’s status as an internationally recognized sport.
Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasized India’s initiative to establish Yogasana as a competitive global sport, reflecting the nation’s cultural richness and youth vitality. The championship signifies a significant step towards expanding the sport globally and fostering a new economy around Yogasana, inviting countries worldwide to participate and embrace the Yoga Way of Life.
