After the recent incidents in Kota, where five women died due to post-delivery complications, a 20-year-old woman named Preeti from Suratgarh passed away at the Prince Bijay Singh Memorial (PBM) Hospital in Bikaner. Preeti, who was admitted for childbirth a month ago, faced multiple organ failure following delivery, leading to her demise. Despite intensive treatment, including ventilator support, her condition deteriorated due to kidney failure triggering complications in other vital organs.
Hospital sources revealed that Preeti’s health deteriorated rapidly post-delivery, with inadequate oxygen supply to her brain exacerbating her condition. The hospital superintendent confirmed her death was a result of multiple organ failure, a consequence of kidney failure that impacted other organs. This incident is part of a broader medical crisis at PBM Hospital, where six women suffered kidney failure after Cesarean deliveries, prompting the Rajasthan government to investigate the situation.
Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited Bikaner to assess the situation and discuss matters with officials at SP Medical College. The Minister’s visit followed protests by Youth Congress workers over the hospital’s handling of the affected women. Criticism arose after the Minister’s remarks questioning the condition of the patients, drawing ire from opposition leaders and social groups. With pressure mounting on the hospital administration and state health authorities, the focus is now on determining the cause of the medical complications and ensuring accountability in this case.
