The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the first supplementary list for judicial adjudication of voters categorized under the “logical discrepancy category” in West Bengal. The list was initially published on the ECI’s main website at midnight and later on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal mentioned that the list completion process for 29 lakh cases had been done, but the exact number of names to be excluded was yet to be determined.
The ECI confirmed meeting the publication deadline for the list at midnight. However, detailed information on the percentage of voters whose adjudication was completed and found excludable is still pending. The printed version of the list is awaited and will be dispatched to district magistrate offices and district electoral officers for printing and display at election booths.
Following the Supreme Court’s directive, periodic supplementary lists will be published based on the progress of judicial adjudication in West Bengal. Individuals identified for exclusion during this process can appeal to the 19 Appellate Tribunals established for this purpose. The forthcoming two-phase Assembly polls in West Bengal are scheduled for April 23 and April 29, covering 152 and 142 Assembly seats respectively.
