Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative for a healthier India resonated strongly at a special ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The event, graced by leading Olympians and sports personalities, highlighted the importance of physical and mental fitness. Assam Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa flagged off the cycling event, which saw around 400 participants ride a six-kilometre route.
Such fitness events, supported by PM Modi and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, align with the vision of a developed India by 2047. The enthusiastic participation of Assam’s youth in the cycling event signifies a positive step towards fitness and well-being. The presence of Olympians, world champions, and sports icons added star power to the occasion.
The cycling rally was led by prominent figures like 2012 London Olympians Jayant Talukdar and Bharat Chetri, former boxing world champion Sarita Devi, Indian women’s football captain Ashalata Devi, and Dronacharya boxing coach Sandhya Gurung. The event featured yoga, dance performances, and a kudo demonstration, creating a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere. The initiative, now in its 60th edition, aims to raise awareness about fitness across all age groups nationwide.
Praising the initiative, Bharat Chetri emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and commended the government’s efforts in promoting fitness. Dronacharya boxing coach Sandhya Gurung highlighted the event as a platform to encourage better health habits and a healthier lifestyle. Indian women’s football stalwart Ashalata Devi appreciated the turnout, noting the significance of youngsters engaging in physical activities beyond academic pursuits.
