Foreign diplomats in India have also joined in paying tributes to the late legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away in Mumbai at the age of 92. Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, expressed his admiration for Asha Bhosle’s music, calling her “evergreen” and stating that her songs will continue to resonate in their hearts. The European Union’s Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, described Asha Bhosle’s demise as a significant loss, highlighting her enduring legacy in the world of music.
Asha Bhosle, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, breathed her last on Sunday. With a career that began in 1943 with the Marathi film “Majha Bal,” she rose to fame as one of the most popular singers of her era, known for timeless classics like “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko” and “Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani.” Her musical repertoire spanned various Indian languages, showcasing her versatility and talent.
Throughout her illustrious career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle recorded songs for numerous films and albums in multiple languages, amassing a staggering collection of nearly 12,000 songs. Her exceptional contributions to music were recognized with prestigious accolades, including two National Film Awards for songs from “Umrao Jaan” and “Ijaazat.” She was also honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, the second-highest civilian honor in India.
