Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah, who recently switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has submitted his nomination papers for the Bihpuria Assembly constituency in Lakhimpur district for the upcoming state elections on April 9. Accompanied by senior BJP leaders and supporters, Borah filed his nomination, solidifying his entry into the electoral race with the BJP. This move marks a significant political transition in Assam’s pre-poll scenario.
In a press interaction post his nomination filing, Borah criticized his former party, the Congress, stating that no self-respecting individual can remain in the Congress anymore. He cited internal conflicts and a lack of clear direction within the party as reasons prompting several leaders to reassess their political paths. Borah expressed faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the development agenda of the BJP, emphasizing that Modi’s development journey is unstoppable.
Borah highlighted his commitment to driving accelerated progress in the Bihpuria constituency if elected, focusing on infrastructure, employment, and welfare schemes. He urged voters to back the BJP for sustained growth and stability in Assam. With Borah contesting from the BJP, the Bihpuria seat is anticipated to witness a competitive electoral battle, reshaping the political landscape in Lakhimpur district.
