Former Assam Congress President and newly elected BJP MLA Bhupen Borah praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision for the state, highlighting significant strides towards economic and social transformation. Borah commended the Chief Minister’s initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation, economic growth, healthcare enhancement, and inflation control. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing the number of people below the poverty line in Assam over the next five years based on recent surveys.
Referring to the state government’s target of achieving a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by 2028-29, Borah expressed optimism in the practicality and development-oriented approach of the roadmap presented by Chief Minister Sarma. He underscored the importance of industrial growth and investment promotion in bolstering the state’s economy and creating job opportunities for the youth. Borah emphasized the need for facilitating investors to drive economic growth and improve employment prospects, advocating against sole reliance on government jobs to address unemployment challenges.
Borah also highlighted the state government’s focus on healthcare, particularly maternal and child welfare, citing Chief Minister Sarma’s concerns over maternal mortality rates and the necessity for ongoing health sector reforms. Additionally, he mentioned the government’s efforts to address inflation issues and provide relief to the general populace. On judicial matters, Borah stressed the importance of non-interference by the state Assembly and political leaders in court proceedings, emphasizing the need for independent legal processes to prevail.
The BJP MLA criticized the Opposition for alleged breaches of political decorum during the election campaign, which he claimed were rebuffed by the people of Assam in the recent state polls. Bhupen Borah’s transition from the Congress to the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections had garnered significant attention in the state’s political landscape. Following his switch, Borah contested and won from the Bihpuria Assembly constituency in the elections.
