Former Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah criticized the party’s state leadership, citing internal discord and a lack of unity within the state unit. Borah mentioned that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has had ongoing differences with Raijor Dal leader and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi. He alleged that despite Akhil Gogoi’s demand for 15 assembly seats, Congress could only offer two to three seats.
Borah expressed concerns about the Congress in Assam facing psychological collapse due to infighting and a lack of cohesion among senior leaders. He highlighted the absence of a collective vision and mutual trust, which he believes has weakened the party’s ability to challenge the ruling BJP in the state. Borah also questioned the morale within the party leadership during Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s recent visit to Assam.
The former Congress leader emphasized that the party’s internal issues have disheartened grassroots workers and confused voters, ultimately benefiting the BJP. He criticized the party leadership for ignoring ground realities and suppressing dissenting voices instead of introspecting and making necessary corrections. Borah’s comments come amidst dissatisfaction expressed by Akhil Gogoi over the recent seat-sharing discussions between Congress and Raijor Dal.
