Former Assam Assembly Speaker and BJP MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami defended his overseas trip during the recent flood crisis in Upper Assam. He stated that he stayed in constant touch with local authorities, party members, and representatives while abroad. Goswami emphasized that he closely monitored the situation in his constituency from overseas.
Goswami, who won against Congress state President Gaurav Gogoi in the Jorhat Assembly seat, mentioned that the flood situation in Jorhat has significantly improved. He shared that he has now been granted permission to visit his constituency after the Assembly sessions to assess the ground reality and relief efforts.
The senior BJP legislator explained that his foreign visit was planned in relation to his daughter’s PhD admission process. He clarified that he had obtained necessary permissions before traveling and had informed the authorities about his return schedule. Goswami mentioned that when he left the country, the situation in Jorhat was normal, and he did not anticipate the severity of the floods.
