Former Bihar Director General of Police, Gupteshwar Pandey, created a stir by alleging that a serving IPS officer kickstarted the trend of kidnapping crimes in the state. Pandey accused an SP from Andhra Pradesh, deputed in Bihar during a period of rampant dacoity, of advising criminal groups to switch to kidnapping for ransom. He stated that this strategy aimed to manipulate crime statistics and ease pressure on the police force.
Pandey highlighted that Bihar, previously witnessing a high number of daily kidnappings, has now overcome what he termed as a “kidnapping industry” through improved governance measures. He emphasized the need for public involvement in maintaining law and order, urging citizens to unite against criminal activities regardless of caste or religious differences.
The former DGP commended Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s governance for enhancing the state’s security situation and lauded Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar’s capabilities. Pandey expressed confidence in the current police leadership and highlighted the importance of swift action in response to recent incidents. He also discussed the potential impact of any leadership changes in Bihar’s political landscape.
