Former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad has raised concerns about the broadcast of an alleged adult advertisement during the second T20I between India and England at Old Trafford. Azad, who expressed his worries on social media during the match, emphasized the need for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to investigate the issue.
Azad highlighted that airing such advertisements during a game watched by millions of children is alarming. He stressed that given cricket’s extensive family viewership, children should not be exposed to such content during live sports events. Azad pointed out that the presence of adult advertisements can put parents in uncomfortable situations and lead to questions from children who may not comprehend the context.
The former all-rounder emphasized the significance of addressing the issue, particularly in a country where cricket is revered. Azad questioned the rationale behind allowing adult advertisements when promotions related to alcohol and tobacco are prohibited. He urged the BCCI to provide explanations and take necessary actions to ensure appropriate content is broadcasted during matches.
Azad refrained from immediately calling for legal action but insisted that the cricket board should address the matter promptly. However, he made it clear that if required, he is prepared to escalate the issue further, even considering raising it in Parliament. Azad’s objection during the match regarding the inappropriate advertisement underscores his commitment to ensuring that such content is not displayed during cricket broadcasts.
