Police in Pakistan’s Punjab province have arrested the son of a former cricketer for allegedly sexually assaulting his house maid, as per local media reports. The case was filed against the ex-cricketer’s son after the maid lodged a complaint on January 23. The suspect reportedly coerced the maid to come to his home urgently for work.
The complainant stated that the suspect picked her up from the housing society entrance and took her to his farmhouse, where he allegedly assaulted her. Following the incident, the maid reported the case to the Barki Police Station and requested a rape case to be filed. The police have detained the suspect and initiated an investigation, including medical examinations of both the suspect and the complainant.
In a separate incident, a report by an organization monitoring gender-based violence in Pakistan revealed a significant increase in crimes against women in 2025 compared to the previous year. The report, based on data from national newspapers, highlighted a rise of nearly 25% in reported incidents, with cases including murder, abduction, physical assault, suicide, and rape. The report also indicated that a notable percentage of rape cases involved perpetrators known to the survivors.
