Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai criticized the Siddaramaiah-led government for mishandling the state’s economy and displaying arrogance by not attending a meeting called by PM Narendra Modi. Speaking in Bagalkot, Bommai alleged that the government had tarnished the financial system’s reputation. He highlighted a significant shortfall in the allocation for the Upper Krishna Project, emphasizing the injustice to the region’s residents.
Significant political shifts have transpired post the 2023 elections, disappointing public expectations from the government. Bommai contrasted his administration’s financial prudence during the pandemic with the current government’s mounting debt of approximately Rs 4 lakh crore. He warned of a potential additional debt burden of Rs 6-7 lakh crore over three more budgets. Bommai also noted increased central funding for Karnataka under the 15th Finance Commission compared to the previous regime.
The former CM praised the rise in railway funding to Rs 7,000 crore and emphasized the growth in national highway development. He defended GST rate reductions as beneficial to the public and questioned labeling them unjust to the state. Bommai criticized the Chief Minister for alleged lapses in executing schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission and failing to provide funds for various projects. He further accused Siddaramaiah of shirking meetings with PM Modi, delegating ministers instead.
