Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressed that the public has become disenchanted with the state government’s two-and-a-half-year tenure. He highlighted the ongoing power struggle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, suggesting its impact on the Davanagere by-election. Bommai emphasized that a BJP victory in this bypoll could alter Karnataka’s political course.
At a press conference in Davanagere, Bommai remarked on the unexpected by-election and the various political events of the past years. He noted a prevailing sense of disappointment among the populace, citing inefficiencies across government sectors. The former CM criticized the administration for neglecting farmers’ concerns and failing to address common people’s issues effectively.
Bommai accused the government of being anti-farmer and indifferent to public grievances. He criticized the lack of development initiatives, citing pervasive corruption that hampers the general population. The former CM also questioned the state government’s contributions to Davanagere, highlighting the absence of significant progress despite receiving funds under the Smart City project.
Describing Davanagere as a vital commercial center in central Karnataka, Bommai lamented the lack of visible urban development. He pointed out a shifting social landscape in the region, suggesting a change in traditional voting patterns. Bommai predicted social realignment and political polarization, asserting that a BJP victory in the by-election would reshape Karnataka’s political landscape.
