The son of Manoj Verma, former Kolkata Police Commissioner and current Director of Security, was recently targeted in a cyber crime incident. Piyush Verma, his son, reported that Rs 30,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account during a flat search in Delhi. Following the unauthorized debit, Piyush lodged a complaint at the Lalbazar Cyber Crime Police Station in Kolkata on February 2.
Police authorities acted swiftly on the complaint, leading to the arrest of Rakesh Pradhan from Odisha. During interrogation, Rakesh disclosed that two individuals named Sanjay and Akshay from Delhi had utilized his bank account for the fraudulent transactions. While Rakesh is currently in police custody, efforts are underway to locate the other suspects involved in the cyber fraud.
The police are intensifying their investigation into the matter, emphasizing the seriousness of the case. Cyber crimes pose a significant challenge, prompting Kolkata Police to establish a 24-hour cyber crime helpline for swift resolution of cyber-related complaints and queries. The helpline, inaugurated by Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar at the Lalbazar Cyber Crime Police Station, can be reached at toll-free number 1800-3450066 for assistance at any hour.
