Describing the deaths of postpartum women and kidney failures in government hospitals in Kota and Bikaner as a shocking “institutional failure” of Rajasthan’s healthcare system, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has demanded accountability. Gehlot emphasized the devastating toll on poor women who trusted the public health system, urging urgent action including the release of investigation reports and criminal cases against responsible officials and doctors.
Gehlot raised concerns about the quality of medicines, infection control in operation theatres, and the overall healthcare system functioning in the state. He expressed deep worry over the incidents at New Medical College Hospital in Kota and PBM Hospital in Bikaner, demanding strict action and justice for affected families. Gehlot labeled the incidents as more than medical mishaps, characterizing them as a systemic failure of the government healthcare setup.
The former Chief Minister highlighted the need for transparency, citing media reports and expert findings on possible factors contributing to the tragedies. He stressed the importance of accountability, immediate suspension of responsible individuals, and public disclosure of investigation reports. Gehlot also called for comprehensive support for affected women, including long-term medical treatment and consultation with specialists for advanced care.
