Former state minister and ex-MLA Manish Gupta has announced his decision to resign from the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress. Gupta expressed feeling sidelined in the party for the past five years, leading to his choice to leave. At 84 years old, he cited age as a significant factor in his decision to exit both the party and politics.

Gupta’s departure has sparked political speculation, given his history within the party and the controversies surrounding him. Notably, he defeated the incumbent Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the 2011 state Assembly election. Having served in the state cabinet, Gupta’s exit is viewed as a significant development in political circles.

Manish Gupta’s association with the Trinamool Congress began in 2011 when Mamata Banerjee brought him into active politics, overlooking controversies from his past. Despite his victory over Bhattacharjee in a Left bastion, Gupta now feels his time in the party has come to an end, signaling a new chapter for the veteran politician.
