Senior Tamil Nadu politician Vijayadharani, who previously served as the Vilavancode MLA, has switched her allegiance from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Vijayadharani, a three-time MLA from Kanniyakumari district, had a long association with the Congress before joining the BJP in New Delhi.
Having been a prominent figure in the Congress in southern Tamil Nadu, Vijayadharani held key positions within the party, including Chief Whip in the state Assembly and All India Mahila Congress General Secretary. Her departure from the Congress was viewed as a significant setback for the party in Kanyakumari district.
Despite her move to the BJP, Vijayadharani’s political journey faced challenges, with sources indicating her dissatisfaction over the lack of a substantial organizational role and missed electoral opportunities. Her defeat in the recent Assembly election as a BJP candidate further underscored these challenges.
Vijayadharani’s decision to join TVK without any specific post promised signals a new chapter in her political career. Her entry, along with other leaders like former AIADMK minister Pachamal and former MPs Bala Ganga, Vanaroja, and Ilavarasan, is expected to bolster TVK’s presence in Kanyakumari district and enhance the party’s prospects in future elections.
