Four workers from a rehabilitation center have been taken into custody for reportedly causing the death of a mentally challenged teenager while transporting him to the facility. The incident occurred in south Kolkata’s Bansdroni police station area. The family accused the workers of assaulting the 17-year-old during the journey to a rehab center in Haridevpur, leading to his demise.
The teenager, who had a complex mental condition and displayed violent tendencies, was being escorted to the rehab center due to a sudden outburst. The workers, hailing from Haridevpur’s rehab center, placed him in a car for the trip. Tragically, the teenager’s condition deteriorated en route, prompting the workers to alert his mother about his unconscious state.
Upon reaching the hospital, medical professionals pronounced the teenager dead. Allegations surfaced that the workers had physically harmed the teenager in the vehicle, resulting in his untimely death. In response to the family’s grievance, the police apprehended the four workers on charges of murder. Kolkata Police officials confirmed the arrests and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the teenager’s demise.
