Funds totaling Rs 1,561.53 crore have been disbursed to five states under the new Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0. Uttar Pradesh received Rs 792.93 crore, Chhattisgarh got Rs 536.53 crore, Madhya Pradesh was allocated Rs 154.02 crore, Odisha received Rs 65.31 crore, and Maharashtra obtained Rs 12.74 crore for the year 2025-26.
To ensure transparency and accountability, a system of structured validations has been established. States must meet specific conditions before receiving funds, including signing an MoU for JJM 2.0 implementation, validating schemes against the Sujalam Bharat GIS-linked Asset Registry, complying with CPHEEO design norms, and ensuring proper financial reconciliation.
The timely completion of approved schemes will be closely monitored to ensure adherence to the set timelines. A comprehensive review mechanism is in place to assess financial utilization, technical compliance, and data validation before fund disbursement. This performance-based and compliance-linked approach aims to enhance accountability and achieve effective outcomes.
The Union Cabinet recently approved Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, shifting the mission’s focus from infrastructure to a service delivery model. The total outlay has been increased to Rs 8.69 lakh crore, with central assistance raised to Rs 3.59 lakh crore. This restructuring emphasizes structural reforms for reliable, safe, and sustainable drinking water services.
