GAIL Gas Limited has announced a reduction in the prices of domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Rs 1 per SCM and Rs 1 per kg, respectively, in all its authorized areas nationwide, effective January 1. This price cut applies to GAIL Gas Geographical Areas (GAs) in states including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. The move aligns with the government’s aim to promote a gas-based economy and encourage the use of cleaner fuels.
The Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas highlighted that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), is implementing policies to support the growth of the CNG and domestic PNG market in India. The recent revision of the Unified Tariff by PNGRB, effective January 1, 2026, is expected to lower the transportation cost of natural gas, particularly benefiting City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities for CNG and domestic PNG segments.
GAIL Gas Limited, a subsidiary of Maharatna PSU GAIL (India) Limited, is actively developing City Gas Distribution networks in 16 Geographical Areas (GAs) across the country. Meanwhile, GAIL (India) Limited, the largest natural gas company in India, reported a strong financial performance in the second quarter of FY 2025-26, marked by consistent revenue growth and improved profitability. According to a recent Crisil report, city gas distribution (CGD) companies in India are expected to achieve an operating profit of Rs 7.2–7.5 per standard cubic meter (scm) this fiscal year, reflecting an increase of 8-12% compared to the previous fiscal period.
