State-run GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL) to enhance collaboration in critical and strategic minerals. This partnership aims to bolster India’s resource security and facilitate the transition to clean energy. The agreement was formalized by GAIL’s Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar and KABIL’s CEO Sunil Kumar Singh in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
Under this alliance, GAIL and KABIL will jointly explore opportunities concerning critical minerals crucial for various sectors like advanced manufacturing, renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles, and batteries. The MoU outlines provisions for sharing technical expertise, knowledge, and capacity-building initiatives. Additionally, the two public sector entities will venture into collaborative projects along the mining value chain to ensure a stable supply of critical minerals for India.
This collaboration is anticipated to support India’s initiatives in enhancing access to critical mineral resources, reducing import reliance, and establishing robust supply chains for industries pivotal to the country’s energy transition and economic growth. GAIL, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has a diversified presence in the natural gas domain, encompassing various segments like gas transmission, LNG sourcing, LPG transmission, petrochemicals, city gas distribution, renewable energy, and upstream exploration and production.
KABIL, a joint venture of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), and Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL), was formed to identify, acquire, develop, and secure critical and strategic mineral assets abroad to meet India’s long-term industrial, economic, and energy security needs.
