Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, paid tribute on Monday to those who lost their lives at Jallianwala Bagh, marking the 107th anniversary of the tragic event. The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, which occurred on April 13, 1919, was a significant moment in India’s fight for independence.
Gambhir expressed his respect by stating, “Martyrs live forever! #JallianwalaBagh”. The ruthless actions of British colonial authorities during the massacre had a profound impact on the Indian independence movement, awakening the public to the harsh realities of foreign rule.
The incident, which took place during the Baisakhi festival in Amritsar, saw thousands of unarmed individuals gathered at Jallianwala Bagh, unaware of the imposed Martial Law. Colonel Reginald Dyer’s troops opened fire on the crowd without warning, resulting in a tragic loss of lives.
