Renowned Bhawaiya folk singer Geeta Roy Barman has hailed the Women’s Reservation Bill as a significant step towards empowering women and increasing their political involvement. She commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “Nari Shakti” vision, emphasizing the importance of women’s active participation in decision-making processes. Barman expressed confidence in the Bill, highlighting women’s consistent capabilities both at home and in society.
She lauded the initiative to provide 33% reservation for women, stating that its effective implementation would benefit every woman. Barman stressed that such empowerment would not only boost women’s confidence but also inspire daughters and mothers nationwide. She believes that increased representation in politics will send a positive message to society and strengthen women’s role in nation-building.
Geeta Roy Barman underscored that the Women’s Reservation Bill goes beyond enhancing representation to ensuring women’s voices are heard in governance. She praised Prime Minister Modi for advancing this reform, noting its potential to transform women’s political participation and drive future changes. Barman, a Padma Shri awardee known for her contributions to Bhawaiya folk music, runs a school in Cooch Behar to teach this traditional art form to children.
