US-based AI giant OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT experienced a global technical disruption on Saturday, with over 1,500 users encountering issues on the platform. Downdetector recorded 1,535 user reports around 3 pm, highlighting widespread problems with ChatGPT services.
About 80% of users faced issues with ChatGPT, while 8% had problems with the mobile app, and another 8% reported disruptions with the API. Users worldwide struggled to access the AI chatbot, facing difficulties logging in, submitting prompts, or accessing their chat history.
The disruption began shortly before reports surged on Downdetector from users in the United States, Europe, India, Japan, Australia, and other countries. OpenAI acknowledged the disruption on its status page and stated that they were investigating the issue. The company mentioned that mitigation measures had been applied and they were monitoring the recovery process.
Users encountered various connectivity issues affecting both the ChatGPT website and mobile application. Both free and paid subscribers were impacted by the disruption, experiencing problems like failed logins, authentication errors, chat history not loading, unexpected sign-outs, and service unavailability messages while submitting prompts.
Many users shared their frustrations on social media platforms, reporting issues such as being stuck on loading screens or unable to access previous conversations. OpenAI, however, did not disclose the cause of the outage or provide an estimated timeline for service restoration. This disruption follows a recent major outage that affected ChatGPT, Codex, and API services, taking nearly 24 hours to be fully resolved.
