Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant introduced a range of welfare schemes for workers on International Labour Day at Lok Bhawan. The initiatives aim to empower laborers and enhance social security in the state. These schemes, unveiled in the presence of Minister Atanasio Monserrate and other dignitaries, signify the government’s commitment to expanding welfare coverage and improving workers’ quality of life.
The newly announced programs cover various aspects of worker welfare, including digital literacy initiatives, medical aid for workers’ elderly parents, and financial assistance for children preparing for competitive exams. Additionally, provisions have been made for tuition fee reimbursements for higher education to ensure workers’ families have better access to academic opportunities.
Under the schemes, workers will benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), offering accident insurance benefits to enhance their financial security. Chief Minister Sawant emphasized the government’s dedication to the principle of Antyodaya, ensuring welfare measures reach every individual. He highlighted the crucial role laborers play in Goa’s economy and reiterated the government’s focus on their well-being for the state’s development.
Sawant mentioned that more than 1.4 lakh workers are already registered under various labor welfare schemes, urging others to avail themselves of these benefits. He assured that the government would continue to enhance mechanisms for labor safety, welfare, and social protection. As part of the event, 20 diligent workers were honored with the Shram Gaurav Shramik Mitra Award for their significant contributions to Goa’s progress.
The Chief Minister emphasized that empowering workers is vital for achieving the “Viksit Goa 2037” vision. He stated that inclusive growth and social security would be central to future policy initiatives, underscoring the government’s long-term commitment to workers’ welfare.
