The Central government has affirmed that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) will continue without disruption despite the West Asian Conflict. Measures are in place to ensure timely wage payments and completion of ongoing houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G). The government aims to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029 to achieve “Housing for All” in rural areas.
To prevent any impact on rural welfare programs, approximately Rs 17,744 crore is being released as the first instalment towards the wage component. The Ministry of Rural Development has reviewed preparedness measures to safeguard major rural infrastructure projects from global supply chain disruptions and inflationary trends. Proactive steps are being taken to maintain the continuity of benefits and fund flow for ongoing schemes.
The Ministry is closely monitoring developments to mitigate indirect implications on rural livelihoods, housing construction, road development, and watershed activities. All entitlements, including employment and wage payments under MNREGA, remain unchanged. The government is providing strong support through various amenities like sanitation, drinking water, LPG, and electricity to beneficiaries under PMAY-G.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV, road works covering around 12,100 km have been sanctioned and are in the tendering stage. The ministry noted that exposure to global volatility is limited, given that bitumen costs constitute a small portion of the total project expenses.
