Government offices in Gujarat are experiencing a significant transformation through the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), ushering in a new era of efficient and transparent governance.
Tasks that previously consumed days are now accomplished with a single click, indicating a transition towards quicker and more intelligent administrative procedures.
Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) has been designated as the key agency to drive this initiative, with the AI Centre of Excellence in GIFT City furnishing the necessary technological framework for the deployment of AI solutions across various government departments.
“AI has fundamentally altered the functioning of government offices. Manual tasks have decreased, operations have accelerated, and transparency has been enhanced,” remarked Ankit Suthar, Manager of E-Governance at GIL.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, AI applications are being integrated into critical sectors such as crime control, building permits, agriculture, forestry, and citizen services.
This technology empowers departments to make prompt decisions while minimizing the necessity for citizens to make repeated visits to offices.
Suthar further emphasized, “AI is streamlining operations and reducing delays, benefiting both officials and citizens.”
The AI Centre of Excellence collaborates with startups to develop innovative solutions for government departments, with 19 startups currently engaged in crafting AI-driven applications and more than 350 senior officials statewide having received specialized AI training.
Leading technology experts from companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and NASSCOM offer guidance during these training sessions, elucidating the practical application of AI in public administration.
These initiatives aim to enhance Gujarat’s administrative efficiency and foster technology-driven governance, aligning with the state government’s commitment to modernize processes while upholding speed, accountability, and transparency.
GIL, the state government’s primary IT agency established in 1999 to advance e-governance initiatives, and the AI Centre of Excellence have collectively trained and nurtured over 1,000 startups and MSMEs, with 10 startups currently operating directly at the Centre.
