A total of 4.15 crore houses were earmarked under Phases I and II of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin, with 3.90 crore houses approved and 2.99 crore already built, as per government data. An amount of Rs 4,03,886 crore has been disbursed to ensure timely funding for construction and beneficiary aid across states. The scheme is set to achieve a total target of 4.95 crore houses by 2029, according to an official statement.
The beneficiary-driven initiative has been reinforced through the geo-tagging of houses using time and date-stamped images. This digital documentation enables real-time tracking of progress, ensuring compliance with construction standards. Additionally, AI-powered monitoring tools have been integrated to facilitate anomaly detection and Aadhaar face authentication for enhanced transparency and fraud prevention.
Integration with various schemes like Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar, Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin, Self-Help Groups, Jal Jeevan Mission, and PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has empowered the recipients. PMAY-G operates as a beneficiary-led program, where families are responsible for constructing their homes, and financial aid is directly transferred to their bank accounts.
The statement highlighted the consistent performance of PMAY-G over the past decade, with yearly completions demonstrating its ability to maintain steady progress through different phases. The adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools has enhanced monitoring accuracy, strengthened fraud prevention measures, and improved implementation credibility. These technological advancements ensure the authenticity of each constructed house and the verification of every beneficiary.
AI models analyze house attributes such as walls, roofs, doors, and windows from uploaded photos, recommending the most suitable final image for approval to certify only genuine and complete constructions. Beneficiary verification is conducted through Aadhaar-based, AI-enabled face authentication, guaranteeing that only eligible households receive assistance, thereby fortifying the database’s credibility. Advanced features like eye-blink and motion detection are utilized during beneficiary verification to confirm the live and genuine nature of the authentication process, preventing impersonation or misuse.
