The government announced that approximately 5.96 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, with infrastructure in place for an additional 2.68 lakh connections, bringing the total to 8.64 lakh connections. Moreover, about 6.66 lakh customers have registered for new connections, while over 43,350 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections as of May 1.
Since April 2026, more than 22.78 lakh 5-Kg FTL cylinders have been sold, with PSU OMCs conducting over 9,980 awareness camps for these cylinders, resulting in the sale of more than 1,71,000 cylinders. Additionally, a total of 2,05,849 MT of Commercial LPG has been sold, equivalent to over 108.34 lakh 19-Kg LPG cylinders, and 10698 MT of Auto LPG has been sold by PSU OMCs since last month.
The government has increased gas allocation to fertiliser plants to nearly 98% of their six-month average consumption. Refineries are running at high capacity with ample crude inventories, and there are sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel. Domestic LPG production has been boosted to meet local demand, and an inter-ministerial Joint Working Group has been established to ensure petrochemical feedstock supply.
Since April 9, 2026, Mumbai, Kochi, Vizag, Chennai, Mathura, and Gujarat refineries have sold over 10,000 MT of propylene and more than 1200 MT of Butyl Acrylate to the Chemical, Pharma, and Paint Industry. The government assured that all retail outlets are functioning normally nationwide, dispelling rumors of panic buying by confirming the availability of adequate petrol and diesel stocks at all Petrol Pumps.
