The government’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, aiming to provide clean cooking fuel access, has benefitted 10.35 crore individuals by December 1, 2025. LPG affordability was enhanced through a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills annually for PMUY beneficiaries, leading to increased LPG consumption.
To address pending applications and ensure widespread LPG availability, the government sanctioned 25 lakh additional LPG connections in FY 2025-26. The use of Aadhaar authentication was accelerated to enhance subsidy targeting and transparency, covering 71% of PMUY consumers and 62% of non-PMUY consumers by December 1, 2025.
A ‘Basic Safety Check’ campaign was conducted nationwide to bolster consumer safety in LPG usage, with over 12.12 crore free safety inspections and replacement of 4.65 crore LPG hoses at discounted rates. The Ministry also focused on enhancing petroleum marketing infrastructure, enabling over 90,000 retail outlets with digital payment facilities.
