The Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, announced that the government is in the final stages of rejuvenating Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), a significant Indian industrial enterprise. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to revitalize HMT’s various business divisions and operational units across the country, including Bengaluru. Discussions with stakeholders and ministries will soon take place to expedite the implementation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Efforts to formulate a comprehensive revival strategy for HMT have been ongoing for the past two years. A high-level committee, led by V.K. Saraswat, was established to examine the matter and provide recommendations. Based on these recommendations, a structured roadmap has been developed to restore HMT to its prominent position as a leading industrial entity. The Minister highlighted the full support and guidance received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in these endeavors.
Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, concrete steps have been initiated to restore HMT’s legacy and usher in a new era of growth and excellence for the institution. The Union Minister dedicated the Advanced Engineering Material Testing Facility Centre at the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) to the nation. He emphasized the government’s focus on manufacturing-led growth and employment-generating industries under PM Modi’s visionary leadership.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy praised CMTI as a distinguished industrial research institution that has significantly contributed to developing advanced technologies for strategic sectors like aerospace and defense. The Central Government aims to expand CMTI substantially in the coming years to align with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. The Minister commended CMTI for its contributions to research, innovation, and industrial advancement over the years, highlighting its commitment to nation-building and technological self-reliance.
