The Gujarat government has taken steps to enhance its Ebola preparedness by setting up isolation wards in Ahmedabad and Surat. Despite reported cases in Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan, no instances of the virus have been identified in Gujarat or India. In Ahmedabad, a 32-bed facility at Civil Hospital and a 60-bed ward at SVP Hospital have been readied for suspected cases.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya led a meeting in Gandhinagar to review these measures, emphasizing the state’s readiness. The health department is closely following guidelines from the Union Health Ministry to ensure effective implementation. Passengers from high-risk countries are under special surveillance, with intensified screening at Ahmedabad’s airport.
Officials clarified that the screening is focused on travelers from affected nations and assured that there is no need for alarm among those arriving from other countries. The government has established isolation facilities as a precautionary measure and is ready to initiate treatment promptly if any suspected cases arise. Pansheriya urged caution only for passengers from the specified countries to prevent potential spread of infection.
The minister reiterated that there have been no Ebola cases in India or Gujarat and urged the public not to panic. The state’s health machinery is fully committed to protecting citizens and responding effectively to any health emergencies.
