The Gujarat Assembly approved a budget of Rs 3,725.11 crore for the state’s Rural Development Department for the financial year 2026–27. This budget includes plans to extend rural employment to 125 days and increase housing assistance for beneficiaries. Rural Development Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya highlighted the focus on expanding employment opportunities, providing housing, and enhancing women’s economic participation.
The proposed ‘Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G Ram G)’ aims to ensure 125 days of employment for rural workers, up from the current 100 days. A provision of Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for this initiative. Bavaliya emphasized the importance of valuing the labor of rural workers and working towards the Vision 2047 goal in the rural employment sector.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), the budget increases financial assistance for beneficiaries. More than 6.90 lakh houses have already been completed in Gujarat under this scheme. For the upcoming fiscal year, an allocation of Rs 1,617.33 crore is proposed, with an additional state top-up of Rs 50,000 per house, bringing the total assistance per beneficiary to Rs 2,32,920.
To support housing for particularly vulnerable tribal groups, Rs 47.35 crore has been allocated under the PM‑Janman Scheme. Additionally, financial aid has been announced to complete around 18,000 pending houses from previous years, with each house receiving an extra Rs 50,000 under full state funding.
