The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Valsad Special Operations Group (SOG) discovered 2.377 kg of mephedrone during a raid at a scrap godown in Sarigam village, Valsad district. Two individuals, Rajesh Maurya and associates Abdul Kalam and Mehulkumar Makwana, were apprehended for allegedly manufacturing and distributing the banned synthetic narcotic substance. The raid was prompted by intelligence received by ATS Deputy Superintendent of Police S.L. Chaudhary.
Officials revealed that the seized mephedrone, also known as MD, had an estimated market value ranging between Rs 6 crore and Rs 7 crore. The operation, conducted under a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, aimed to curb the illegal drug trade. The accused individuals were reportedly involved in the production process for several months before the raid took place.
ATS SP K.K. Patel emphasized the continuous efforts of the Gujarat ATS in combating drug-related activities in alignment with government policies. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the extent of the accused’s involvement, potential buyers, and the supply chain. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further inquiries underway.
