What started as intelligence received by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) about suspected extremist activity in North Gujarat has led to the discovery of an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module. The ATS arrested eight individuals from various locations, accusing them of working for the banned terrorist organization to establish a network in Gujarat.
The arrested individuals have been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This case marks the 11th terror-related case registered by the ATS in the past three-and-a-half years. The investigation revealed that the accused had been consuming and sharing extremist content online for an extended period.
According to ATS officials, the group maintained direct contact with Pakistani handlers, receiving instructions and funds. The accused allegedly formed a small, tightly controlled core group to provide logistical support as directed. The module’s activities included physical meetings, exchanging letters, and sharing extremist material.
Investigators recovered digital files, books, speeches, and a Jaish-e-Mohammed flag from the accused. The group’s structure, primarily consisting of individuals with personal connections, aimed to maintain secrecy and limit recruitment. The ATS is continuing its efforts to identify additional contacts and verify the network’s activities.
