The Gujarat BJP’s state election committee met for nearly six hours at the Chief Minister’s residence in Gandhinagar to discuss selecting candidates for the upcoming local self-government elections. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma were present at the meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other committee members also attended.
The meeting initiated a three-day process, with additional meetings planned for April 8 and April 9 to finalize candidates for municipal corporations, district panchayats, taluka panchayats, municipalities, and by-elections. Notable attendees included various party members like former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, education minister Pradyuman Vaja, and Union minister C.R. Patil. The party sources mentioned that individuals with three terms and those above 60 years of age will not receive tickets for the local self-government elections.
Discussions during the meeting centered on identifying and confirming potential candidates across different local bodies as the election preparations escalate. A party source indicated that the initial list of candidates is anticipated to be disclosed by April 10. The State Election Commission has scheduled the voting for April 26, with the vote counting set for April 28. The nomination process is slated to commence on April 11, with April 15 as the deadline for withdrawal of nominations.
