The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has greenlit two key projects aimed at enhancing governance and disaster management. Firstly, the establishment of the Maharashtra Geotechnology Application Centre (MahaGeoTech) has been sanctioned to boost administrative efficiency through advanced technology. MahaGeoTech will house divisions focusing on modern technology, research and training, geospatial innovation, and administration.
This new entity will concentrate on cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things to ensure data quality and security. It will also develop geospatial portals, software applications, and integrate datasets for solving complex administrative issues. Additionally, a Research and Training Division will conduct academic programs and research in geospatial technology to foster technical innovation within government departments.
Moreover, the Maharashtra Cabinet has also given the nod to the Maharashtra Resilience Financing Programme, utilizing a Rs 165 crore fund from the World Bank to mitigate disaster impacts. The program aims to provide relief to disaster-affected citizens through home loan concessions and offer specialized credit facilities and insurance security to various sectors. The initiative will focus on the Krishna and Panchganga river basins, drafting comprehensive plans to reduce flood risks in specific regions.
