Gujarat Giants have revealed that Ashleigh Gardner, the Australian all-rounder, will lead the team in the upcoming Women’s Premier League season. Gardner took over the captaincy from Beth Mooney last season and guided the team to their first playoffs in three years.
The franchise expressed confidence in Gardner, highlighting her experience and leadership qualities. Gardner has been a key player for Gujarat Giants since the inception of the Women’s Premier League in 2023, showcasing impressive performances with both bat and ball.
Known for her consistent all-round abilities, Gardner emerged as the top run-scorer for the Giants in the previous season. She not only excelled with the bat, scoring 243 runs at a striking rate of 164.18 but also made significant contributions with her off-spin, claiming eight wickets at an economy rate of 8.03.
Gujarat Giants finished third in the WPL 2025 standings, earning a spot in the Eliminator round. Despite a strong season, they were defeated by eventual champions Mumbai Indians. The upcoming fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League is scheduled from January 9 to February 5, 2026, across Navi Mumbai and Vadodara.
The Giants will kick off their campaign against UP Warriorz in Navi Mumbai on January 10.
