The Gujarat government, led by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, has advanced its preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. A meeting of the proposed Board of Directors of the Games’ organizing company was convened to discuss the necessary roadmap, planning, and coordination for hosting the international multi-sport event. Sanghavi expressed optimism, calling it a significant step towards bringing the Commonwealth Games 2030 to Gujarat.
The state’s preparations have gained momentum following Ahmedabad’s confirmation as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will commemorate the event’s centenary edition. Scheduled for October 2030, this will be India’s second time hosting the Commonwealth Games, with the first held in New Delhi in 2010. Gujarat has been actively enhancing governance and organizational structures in anticipation of the Games.
Efforts are underway to establish a dedicated organizing company responsible for overseeing the planning, infrastructure development, operational coordination, and successful execution of the event. This structure aims to unite stakeholders from the state and central governments, sporting bodies, and other relevant entities involved in hosting the Games. Additionally, preparations are in progress to set up venues for the global sporting events that will feature athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations across various sports.
