The Gujarat government plans to introduce an ‘Asset Safety Monitoring Portal’ for continuous digital oversight of over 1.5 lakh public assets, including roads, bridges, and government buildings. This initiative, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aims to enhance public safety and ensure the protection of state-owned infrastructure. The decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to prevent public infrastructure from endangering citizens.
The state’s General Administration Department recently issued a circular outlining the registration of all public assets in Gujarat on a centralized digital platform. This system will consolidate information like GIS-based location data, photographs, officer details, and unique digital identifications for each asset. The primary goal is to facilitate systematic monitoring of infrastructure conditions and establish a data-driven framework for future construction and maintenance planning.
Officials highlight that the portal will enable the identification of structural weaknesses, inspection delays, and repair needs in a timely manner. It will incorporate an automated inspection calendar and real-time alert system to prompt necessary inspections and maintenance activities. Field officers will utilize digital logins to upload inspection reports and images on the integrated platform.
District collectors, municipal commissioners, and in-charge secretaries will conduct regular reviews of monitoring data to ensure infrastructure safety. Additionally, a dedicated Asset Safety Monitoring Cell within the General Administration Department will oversee the system at the state level. This cell will ensure daily monitoring and submit reports to the chief secretary for appropriate follow-up actions.
The government emphasizes that the portal’s design aims to streamline monitoring and decision-making processes related to public infrastructure across different administrative levels. By enhancing safety oversight and transparency, the initiative seeks to improve the management and maintenance of public assets in Gujarat.
